Mezan Chiriquí

The Unaltered Rum

Distinctive soft molasses based rums distilled in modern multi-column stills. The distillery grows its own cane for the production of both aguardiente and rum and also cultivates historical yeast cultures which add character and individuality. WHERE IT ALL BEGAN.. THE CARIBBEAN!

Famed for its golden sands, turquoise waters and gently swaying palms, the Caribbean is also the cradle of one of the world’s oldest and most popular spirits: rum. For centuries, rum production has prospered in these myriad islands to form a whole palette of aromas and styles unique to each place and each distillery. Meticulously selected by our Cellar Master, Mezan rums capture the depth and diversity of the Caribbean by offering the purest and most authentic flavors. HIDDEN TREASURE A PASSIONATE SEARCH
The distilleries – some of which are legendary or no longer in operation are all scrutinized by the expert eye of our Cellar Master. He scours this vast region in search of its hidden treasures, these unaltered rums; unsweetened, uncolored and unchill filtered. Produced by a single distillery and unblended, the vintage rums present the most sincere expression of their producer and origin. Our Cellar Master ensures that each of our rums reaches its best aging potential, sublimating the exceptional character of each of these origins.

A UNIQUE STYLE: UNALTERED
Preserving the integrity of the product and enhancing its essence. Mezan takes you on a journey of discovery through the different styles of Caribbean rums. Mezan presents a collection of old and high-quality traditional rums that all follow the same aging requirements: they are bottled without added sugar and coloring agents and they are never chill filtered.

AUTHENTICITY & TRUTH
The choice of transparency. Our philosophy is simple: to present pure and singular rums with unique tasting profile that respects each individual provenance and distillery. Mezan preserves and enhances the inherent character of every rum.

THE CHOSEN CASK
Bourbon casks, for their mild influence. All MEZAN rums are aged in old Bourbon casks until they reach their optimum level of maturity. Bourbon casks affect the final taste of the rum the least. The decision was a deliberate one, aimed at optimally preserving the special identity and singular character of each rum.

SLIGHT REDUCTION
Balancing tasting pleasure and aromatic intensity. Our Cellar Master only adds water when balancing our rums to ensure taste them at their very best: when the aromas are released without an excessively alcoholic nose or mouth. Our vintages are all bottled at 46% and our Jamaica XO at 40% to give an optimal tasting experience.

Tasting Notes:
A nice golden tint. An intense nose of spices, vanilla, pepper and light oak notes. Backed by stone fruits and coconut aromas. The palate is subtle, round and elegant, lightly woody which develops into spicy and refreshing peppery notes on the finish. HOW TO TASTE?
MEZAN Chiriqui can be enjoyed neat, as well as in sophisticated cocktails. The powerful aromas will give your most refined cocktails excellent structure and a distinctive character.
