Mexican Secret

Villa Rica rum is distilled from sugar cane cultivated in the centre-west region of Veracruz State at the foot of the Sierra Madre Oriental near the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. Veracruz is a place recognized for its humid, tropical weather which is the ideal climate for sugar cane plantations and spirit ageing. Two different types of sugar canes, which grow between 700 an 1400 meters above sea level, are used for Villa Rica rum. All water used for the production of rum comes from the Citlatépetl, Mexico’s highest volcano. Villa Rica matures in white oak barrels, previously used for Canadian whisky production.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Soft and elegant on the nose, nice hints of maturation, strong alcohol warmness delivering honeyed and toasted oak flavours together with nice exotic fruits.

Taste: Medium-plus body, very well structured, intense flavours as described on nose. Nice integration of alcohol acidity, great finesse

Finish: Warm persistent finish, flavours continue throughout taste, harmonious final, and sweet caramel  echoing on the finish. Multi-layered flavours last long on the aftertaste

    Long en bouche avec une attaque mélangée de bois de chêne et de miel, ensuite miel et caramel avec en final un bouquet de fruits exotiques. Un excellent équilibre entre alcool, senteurs et bouquet. Bien structuré, les 23 ans de fûts de chêne ont porté leurs fruits. Je pense que l’eau a apporté sa touche, ainsi que les fûts canadiens, qui remplacent bien les fûts européens et américains.
